2   (Optional)  An existing word to attach to
You can enter a word that's already on the board. We'll try to find words that can be played alongside the word, or crossing the word, or a longer word made by extending the existing word.

Or if there is a gap between words on the board that you want to fill you can enter the letters already on the board, with ? for any spaces you want to fill. For example G??T might find GIFT, or YOGURT, or GRATIFY.

You can leave this box empty if you don't need it.

3   Choose your dictionary
It's important to select the correct dictionary or we might suggest words that aren't valid in your game.

Also we show you what each word would score but we need to know which game you are playing as each game has a different scoring system.

Always select "Words With Friends" if you are playing Words With Friends.

For Lexulous, the game defaults to the "US English" dictionary, unless you select the "UK English" option before you start your game.

For all other Scrabble games:

"USA tournament" is the official dictionary used in tournaments in the USA, and an option for the official online Scrabble game (OTCWL/TWL/OWL 2006).

"USA home & school" is based on the USA tournament dictionary but censored to remove offensive words. It is sometimes called "Merriam Webster", and is an option for the official online Scrabble game (OSPD 4).

"International 2012" is the official dictionary used outside the USA, as of January 2012 (CSTCWL/CSW/SOWPODS 2012). However many online games and apps haven't yet updated their dictionaries and still use the 2007 version.

"International 2007" is now obsolete, but many online games and apps still use this version (CSTCWL/CSW/SOWPODS 2007).

"Generic" is our own minimal dictionary which contains only words that are present across all Scrabble dictionaries. This means any words we suggest are likely to be accepted by most games, but we might not always suggest the best words.

If the game you are playing doesn't tell you which dictionary it uses, then it might well be the USA dictionary. If you find we're suggesting words which the game doesn't accept, try using the generic dictionary instead.
